What to see and do in Caguas, Puerto Rico

Caguas is known as "La Ciudad Criolla" (the Creole City) of Puerto Rico

Caguas is a city located in the central region of Puerto Rico which is well known for it's lechoneras. Caguas is known as "La Ciudad Criolla" (the Creole City) and has a rich cultural heritage, including a strong influence from African, Taíno, and Spanish cultures. The city is home to several museums and landmarks, including the Caguas Museum of History, the Botanical and Cultural Garden of Caguas, and the Turabo Theater.

On 10/6/2008, we took an excursion with Ecoquest to Caguas.  If you follow the Rio Turbano river from Caguas,  it will take you up into the Caribbean mountains to the southeast. We hiked up a river to the top of a waterfall where we rappelled down it.  From there, we took a series of ziplines down the mountain.  Afterwards, we went to the one of the lechoneras and had a great meal.

In terms of economy, Caguas is an important commercial and manufacturing hub in Puerto Rico. The city has a strong pharmaceutical and electronics industry, as well as a significant agricultural sector that produces coffee, sugar cane, and other crops.

Caguas also has a vibrant music scene, with many local musicians and bands performing a variety of genres, including salsa, reggaeton, and plena. The city hosts several festivals and cultural events throughout the year, including the annual Criolla Week festival, which celebrates the city's cultural heritage.
