What to see and do at Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada and New York

Niagara Falls is a stunning natural wonder located on the Niagara River on the border of Ontario, Canada and New York, United States

. It is comprised of three separate waterfalls - Horseshoe Falls, American Falls, and Bridal Veil Falls - which combined create one of the most magnificent and powerful waterfall systems in the world.

On 3/22/2001, we visited Niagara Falls from the Canadian side and also flew over it by helicopter.

The Horseshoe Falls, the largest and most famous of the three, are shaped like a horseshoe and are located on the Canadian side of the river. The American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls are located on the American side.

The Niagara Falls are estimated to be approximately 12,000 years old, and they have been a popular tourist destination for hundreds of years. Visitors can take boat tours that take them up close to the falls, or they can walk along the pathways that offer views from different angles. There are also several observation towers and scenic overlooks from which to view the falls.

In addition to its beauty, Niagara Falls has also played an important role in the history of hydroelectric power. The Niagara Falls Hydroelectric Power Plant, located near the American Falls, was one of the first large-scale hydroelectric power plants in the world. Today, the falls continue to generate significant amounts of hydroelectric power for both the United States and Canada.
