Providence is the capital of the state of Rhode Island

Providence was founded in 1636 by Roger Williams, a religious dissident who was seeking a place where he could practice his beliefs without persecution. The city played a significant role in the American Revolution, with local residents participating in events such as the Gaspee Affair and the Burning of HMS Liberty.

We visited Providence on 10/27/2011 and spent the night in the city.

Today, Providence is known for its vibrant arts and cultural scene, including the renowned Rhode Island School of Design and the Providence Performing Arts Center.
