Puerto Vallarta, Mexico: A Renowned Resort City with Picturesque Beaches and Breathtaking Sunsets

Puerto Vallarta, located on Mexico's Pacific coast in the state of Jalisco, is a renowned resort city celebrated for its picturesque beaches, vibrant culture, and breathtaking sunsets. In the early 1500s, Hernán Cortés used the established port of Acapulco to resupply and anchor his ships as he explored the Pacific Coast of Mexico. He sent two of his ships North to explore the coastline without him. One of his ships wrecked in Puerto Vallarta's Banderas Bay and all but three men were reportedly killed. Puerto Vallarta was established in 1859 and twenty years later the village comprised about 250 homes and 800 residents. Puerto Vallarta is named after Ignacio Vallarta, a former governor of the state of Jalisco.

We visited Puerto Vallarta on 11/14/2024. While there we toured the city by taxi and rode ATVs up into the surrounding Sierra Madre mountains.
