What to see and do in San Jose, Costa Rica

San Jose, the capital and largest city of Costa Rica, is 3,845 ft above sea level and located in the Central Valley of the country. 

San Jose is considered one of the most important cultural, political, and economic centers in Central America.

This is where we started our tour of Costa Rica with Caravan Tours. We were in San Jose from 8/19/2016 to 8/20/2016 and then again on 8/26/2016 at the end of our tour.

The city is known for its colonial-style architecture, museums, theaters, and cultural landmarks. San Jose is also known for its vibrant nightlife, with a range of bars, clubs, and restaurants offering a diverse array of cuisine and entertainment options.

In addition to its cultural offerings, San Jose is home to several universities and research institutions, making it a hub of education and intellectual activity. The city is also the center of Costa Rica's political and governmental activities, with many government buildings and diplomatic missions located here.

One of the most popular tourist attractions in San Jose is the National Museum of Costa Rica, which houses a collection of artifacts and exhibits showcasing the country's rich cultural heritage. Other popular tourist sites include the Central Market, the Teatro Nacional, and the Gold Museum.

San Jose is also a transportation hub, with the Juan Santamaria International Airport located just outside the city, providing easy access to other parts of Costa Rica and other countries in Central America.

Overall, San Jose is a lively and dynamic city that offers a wealth of cultural and educational opportunities, making it an important destination for both tourists and locals alike.
