• What to see and do in Yauco, Puerto RicoVisited July 2021Yauco is located in the southwestern region of Puerto Rico. It is one of the oldest towns on the island and is known for its coffee production, which has been a major part of the town's economy for centuries. It was founded in 1756 and it was one of the original nine towns established by the Spanish in Puerto Rico.  The indigenous Taíno called the area coayuco, meaning "yucca plantation." The Taino natives considered the area of Yauco the capital of Boriken (the Taíno name for "Puerto Rico").
