What to see and do at El Yunque (West side), Puerto Rico

 El Yunque (West side), Puerto Rico: Amazing view which allows you to see all the way to the North coast

El Yunque Rainforest, also known as the Caribbean National Forest, is a lush, verdant tropical rainforest located in the northeastern part of Puerto Rico. Spanning over 28,000 acres, it is one of the few tropical rainforests in the United States National Forest System and the only one in Puerto Rico.

Most people visit El Yunque on the east side of the Caribbean mountain.  However, on this trip on 10/3/2019, we decided to visit Rio Espiritu Santo waterfall which is located on the west side of the mountain.  The road to the waterfall is not well maintained and in a few places we weren't sure that we would be able to continue due to the condition of the road.  Climbing the rocks from the bridge leads to the stunning Rio Espiritu Santo waterfall and natural swimming pool. The waterfall is not visible from the roads and you have to climb up the rocks to see it.   

From the bridge over the Rio Espiritu Santo, there is an amazing view which allows you to see all the way to the North coast.

The El Yunque Rainforest is a popular destination for hikers, nature enthusiasts, and birdwatchers. The forest is home to several hiking trails that range from easy walks to challenging treks.
