
What to see and do in Fajardo, Puerto Rico
Fajardo is a popular tourist destination, thanks to its beautiful beaches, scenic natural areas, and rich cultural heritage
Fajardo is a municipality located on the northeastern coast of Puerto Rico. The town is home to several world-renowned resorts and hotels, as well as a wide variety of restaurants, shops, and other tourist-oriented businesses. The islands of Culebra and Vieques are located off the coast and can be reached by ferry from here. The ferry is located at the former Roosevelt Roads Naval Base which used to be located there.
We visit the Fajardo area often. On 10/3/2019, we visited downtown Fajardo and the Caribbean beaches at Seven Seas, Playa Escondida and Playa Colora which can only be reached by hiking through the mangrove forest from the beach at Seven Seas. On 3/10/2025, we went on a snorkeling excursion to Icacos Island from the Puerto Chico marina.
One of the main attractions of Fajardo is its extensive coastline, which is dotted with idyllic coves, secluded beaches, and crystal-clear waters perfect for swimming, snorkeling, and other water sports. The town's most famous beach is Seven Seas, which is located in the Las Cabezas de San Juan Nature Reserve and is a popular destination for families, couples, and water sports enthusiasts alike.
Fajardo is also home to several notable cultural sites, including the El Conquistador Resort and the Fajardo Lighthouse, both of which offer stunning views of the surrounding coastline. Other must-see attractions in the area include the Las Cabezas de San Juan Nature Reserve, which is home to a diverse array of flora and fauna, and the Bioluminescent Bay, which is one of the few places in the world where visitors can witness the natural phenomenon of bioluminescence.
