What to see and do at the Eastern Ecological Corridor, Puerto Rico

The Eastern Ecological Corridor is a protected natural area located on the northeastern coast of Puerto Rico 

The Corredor Ecológico del Este also known as the Eastern Ecological Corridor, is a protected natural area located on the northeastern coast of Puerto Rico stretching from Playa La Pared in Luquillo to Playa Escondida. It is a significant conservation area that spans approximately 3,400 acres and encompasses a diverse range of ecosystems, including forests, Caribbean beaches, wetlands, and coastal habitats. This ecological corridor is renowned for its biodiversity and is considered a critical conservation area in Puerto Rico.

There are numerous hiking and nature trails within the corridor that allow visitors to explore the natural beauty of the area. These trails provide opportunities for bird watching and wildlife observation.

We visited the Eastern Ecological Corridor on 9/18/2023. We parked at the Playa La Pared parking lot in Luquillo and walked east on the beach to Playa la Selva and back.  Along the way, we saw numerous sea birds and several turtle nests.

The Corredor Ecológico del Este is home to a wide variety of plant and animal species, including several that are endangered or threatened. It provides habitat for native species like the Puerto Rican boa, the Puerto Rican parrot, and the leatherback sea turtle, among others.

The corridor includes several beautiful beaches, such as Playa San Miguel, Playa La, Selva, Fajardo Beach, Cabeza Chiquita Beach, Playa El Cocal and Playa Escondida, where visitors can enjoy swimming and relaxation. These beaches are known for their pristine sands and clear waters.
