Cueva Ventana in Puerto Rico offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding countryside.

It is a popular tourist attraction located in Arecibo, a city in the northwestern part of Puerto Rico. Cueva Ventana is a natural cave system that features a large opening, or "window," that looks down on the Rio Grande de Arecibo river valley.

We first visited here on 10/10/2013. To get to the cave, you hike up a trail and then go down into the cave using a rope as you climb down the rocks (this may have changed as the attraction is now more popular). Once in the cave, you navigate thru the cave until you come to a large room that opens up to the river valley far below. In the cave is an ancient Taino petroglyph on one of the stalactites. You then follow the same route back to exit the cave. The cave was closed for several years and reopened last year with many improvements.

We visited Cueva Ventana on 3/5/2025. It is now a 2 hour guided tour which take you first to the Light Cave which contains many petroglyphs and then to Cueva Ventana. The tour of the Lion's Cave is expected to be added possibly sometime this year.

Visitors can explore this Caribbean cave system and observe the unique rock formations and stalactites and stalagmites that have formed over thousands of years. The view from the "window" is one of the highlights of the visit. Visitors can look out over the lush valley below and see the Arecibo Observatory in the distance. The view is especially stunning during sunset, when the sky is painted with vibrant colors.

Cueva Ventana is a popular destination for tourists and locals alike. Guided tours are available, and visitors can learn about the geology, history, and ecology of the area. It's important to note that while the hike to the cave is relatively short, it does involve some uphill walking, so visitors should wear comfortable shoes and bring plenty of water.
