Lamanai, Belize: Discover One of the Most Fascinating Maya Ruins in Central America

Nestled deep within the lush jungles of northern Belize, Lamanai is one of the most impressive and well-preserved Maya archaeological sites in Central America. Unlike many ancient cities that were abandoned centuries before European contact, Lamanai remained occupied for more than 3,000 years, making it one of the longest continuously inhabited Maya settlements. We visited Lamanai on 5/26/2026. From Belize City we traveled by bus to AyinHa Adventures where we traveled approximately 10 mines by boat to the Lamanai Archeological Reserve. While there we saw lots of monkeys in the trees on the site. We followed the trail to the Temple of the Jaguar and the nearby ball court. We then climbed to the top of the High Temple using the stairway on the back of the temple. You could see for miles in every direction from the top of the temple. From there we then went to the Mask temple and then back to the boat for the trip back to AyinHa Adventures where we had lunch and returned to Belize City by bus.
