Mahahual is a small village in Mexico located about 2 miles from the Costa Maya

The Costa Maya cruise ship terminal brings thousands of tourists to the area each year. The ships at the port can easily be seen from the village. The town has nice beaches with grass-thatched huts, and the reef runs along the coast next to the beach. The village has a small waterfront boardwalk area that offers shopping, restaurants, and bars that are popular with both visitors and locals.

We took a taxi from the port to the town and rode back on a golf cart that some friends of ours rented. The restaurants have beachside tables and lounge chairs available for free. So you can eat, drink, swim and snorkel all in one place. The food was good and the coconut we ordered was picked fresh off the tree next to our table.

Mahahual was originally a fishing village, but it has become a popular tourist destination in recent years, especially for those who are looking for a quieter and more relaxed alternative to some of the more crowded and commercialized tourist areas in the region.
