Costa Maya is a cruise ship port near the Mexican town of Mahahual

The port contains many attractions such as a aviary, and a nearby water park.  There is also a beach, swimming pool, restaurants, shops and bars located at the port so many visitors never leave the port. The dolphin area is closed and not scheduled to reopen.

Recently, Royal Caribbean purchased the port and is building a resort, Perfect Day Mexico, similar to Perfect Day Coco Cay on the north side of the port. It is expected to be completed in 2027 and will stretch over 200 acres along the coastline. Accessed from the cruise port, the attraction will contain a waterpark, the longest lazy river in the world, an adults-only pool area, a premium beach club option and an area for partying. Perfect Day Mexico will also have 12 dining options and 24 drinking options.

We have been to Costa Maya numerous times.  Most recently on November 23, 2023. On this visit, we made arrangements to visit Maya Chan Beach.

When we visited here on 10/8/2021, we took a taxi to Mahahual which is a short distance away and then visited the sites at the port before returning to the ship. Golf carts and bicycles can also be rented at the port.

On 3/18/2022, we made arrangements for a private trip to Bacalar from the port.  Then on 12/30/2025, we took an excursion to raft on the Bacalar Lagoon of Seven Colors at Lo-Ha.

One of the main draws of Costa Maya is its stunning coastline, which features crystal-clear waters and white sandy beaches. The area is also home to the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the second largest coral reef system in the world, which makes it a popular destination for snorkeling and diving enthusiasts.

In addition to its natural beauty, Costa Maya is also known for its cultural offerings. Visitors can explore the nearby Mayan ruins of Chacchoben and Kohunlich, which offer a glimpse into the area's rich history and culture. The town of Mahahual, which is located just south of Costa Maya, is another popular destination for visitors, with its charming shops, restaurants, and bars.

Overall, Costa Maya offers visitors a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural heritage that makes it a truly special destination in Mexico.
