Belize is a small country located on the eastern coast of Central America, bordered by Mexico to the north and Guatemala to the west and south.

The country is known for its diverse culture, rich history, and natural beauty, including the world-famous Barrier Reef, which is the second-largest coral reef system in the world and a popular destination for snorkeling and diving.

On May 3rd, 2004 , we were on a cruise out of Tampa and took a excursion to go cave tubing. Traveled by bus from the port to the jungle. Here, they gave you a life jacket, inner tube, and a head lamp. You then cross the river and follow a guide up a trail thru the jungle to the river about a mile upstream. Once in the river, you float into a cave and travel underground until the river emerged some time later. After a short distance, the river enters a second cave thru which you travel and then emerge at the starting point of the trip.

On December 31, 2025, we once again visited Jaguar Paw. This time we went ziplining and went cave tubing in the Crystal Cave instead of the Jaguar Cave. It is an entirely different experience. They also have added an ATV excursion at the park.

The original inhabitants of Belize were Maya civilizations, and later the country was a part of the Spanish Empire before becoming a British colony in the 19th century. Belize gained independence from Britain in 1981 and is now a parliamentary democracy. It has a population of around 400,000 people and its capital and largest city is Belmopan. The official languages are English and Spanish, and the country has a diverse population of Maya, Creole, Mestizo, Garifuna, and Mennonite communities, among others.

Belize has a tropical climate with warm temperatures year-round and a rainy season from June to November. The economy of Belize is largely based on tourism, agriculture, and offshore banking, and the country is known for its eco-tourism and sustainable development initiatives.
