What to see and do in Marrakech, Morocco

Marrakesh in Morocco has a rich cultural and historical heritage, with its roots dating back to the 11th century

Marrakesh is a city located in western Morocco near the foothills of the Atlas Mountains. It is one of Morocco's largest cities and one of its former capitals. 

On 4/14/2012 and 9/27/2018  we visited the night market at the medina in Marrakesh.  Each evening thousands of people go downtown to the market. On  9/27/2018, we also visited Majorelle Garden which was the home of Yves Saint Laurent  and we went to the food court at the Menara Mall. It overlooks the night market and the city.

The city is known for its beautiful architecture, including the Koutoubia Mosque, one of the largest mosques in Africa, and the Saadian Tombs, the resting place of members of a 16th-century Moroccan dynasty. Another famous landmark is the Bahia Palace, a stunning example of traditional Moroccan architecture with intricate tilework, carved cedarwood, and lush gardens.

Marrakesh is also famous for its vibrant markets, or souks, where visitors can find everything from traditional textiles and spices to ceramics and jewelry. The city is also a food lover's paradise, with a range of street food stalls, cafes, and restaurants serving up traditional Moroccan cuisine, such as tagine, couscous, and mint tea.

Overall, Marrakesh is a city with a rich cultural heritage and a vibrant, lively atmosphere that attracts visitors from around the world. Whether you're interested in history, architecture, shopping, or simply soaking up the local culture, there's something for everyone in Marrakesh.
