Playa Los Bohios is a black sand beach with stunning views of the Caribbean Sea and nearby mountains

Playa Los Bohios is a black sand Caribbean beach on the southeast coast just north of the mouth of the Río Maunabo. Rain erodes the rocks in the mountains, and the black sand is washed down-river during heavy rain storms creating a black sand beach.  The beach is a popular destination among both locals and tourists, and it's known for its clear turquoise waters, soft sand, and peaceful atmosphere.

We visited the Playa Los Bohios beach on 9/1/2022.  As you can see from our pictures, the beach is not always completely black. But it has a great view of the Point Tuna Lighthouse to the North and the mountains to the South.

One of the unique features of Playa Los Bohios is the abundance of palm trees that line the beach, providing ample shade and a tropical ambiance.

Swimming, sunbathing, and snorkeling are among the most popular activities at Playa Los Bohios. The waters are generally calm, making it a great spot for families with children. The beach is also a popular spot for fishing and kayaking. While the beach is relatively secluded and quiet, there are a few facilities available, including restrooms, showers, and picnic areas.

Overall, Playa Los Bohios is a beautiful and relaxing destination that offers a true taste of the Caribbean.
