Sousa is surrounded by lush tropical forests and hills, which provide a stunning backdrop to the beaches and resorts. 

It  is a municipality in the province of Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic. It is located on the northern coast of the island, on the Atlantic Ocean. Sousa is known for its beautiful beaches, clear waters, and vibrant nightlife, making it a popular destination for tourists and locals alike.

On 10/6/2013, we visited the town of Sousa and walked through the town and the beach area.

German and Austrian Jewish refugees received visas issued by the Dominican government between 1940 and 1945 and settled in Sosúa. Sosúa Bay attracts snorkelers and divers because of its sheltered, calm waters, diverse species of fish and intricate reef structures. In the winter, whale watching is also a popular tourist activity in Sosúa Bay.

In addition to its natural beauty, Sousa has a rich cultural heritage. It was founded in the early 16th century and has a long history of Spanish colonization, as well as African, Taino, and Taíno influences. This rich cultural mix is reflected in the town's architecture, food, music, and festivals.

Sousa is also a popular spot for water sports, such as swimming, snorkeling, and diving, as well as other outdoor activities, such as horseback riding, hiking, and golfing. There are also many restaurants, bars, and shops in the town, as well as several hotels and resorts that offer a range of accommodations for visitors.
