What to see and do at Valladolid, Mexico

Valladolid is a city located in the eastern part of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico

It was established in 1543 on the site of a Maya town called Zací.  Notable sights include the Convent of San Bernardino de Siena which was built by Franciscan missionaries in 1552 and the Cathedral of San Servacio located in the central plaza of the city. The plaza, Parque Principal Francisco Cantón Rosado, is surrounded by restaurants and shops.

We visited Valladolid on 2/14/2021 and toured the downtown area of the city.

It played an important role in the Yucatan during the colonial period and served as a hub for trade and commerce. The city is known for its colonial-era architecture, including the San Servacio Cathedral and the Convent of San Bernardino de Siena. The city's historic center is well-preserved and was designated a Pueblo Mágico (Magical Town) by the Mexican government.

The city is a popular tourist destination, with many visitors using it as a base for exploring the Yucatan Peninsula. In addition to Chichen Itza, other popular attractions in the area include the Cenote Ik Kil, the Coba Ruins, and the Rio Lagartos Biosphere Reserve.
