What to see and do in Amsterdam, Netherlands
Amsterdam is the capital and largest city of the Netherlands, located in the province of North Holland.
It is known for its beautiful canals, museums, and architecture, as well as its vibrant cultural scene. It is also known for the large number of bicycles within the city and its red light district.
On September 21, 2007, we visited Amsterdam. We traveled by boat thru the city and walked the downtown area. We visited the city again in June, 2022 for a cruise to the British Isles.
The city is often referred to as the "Venice of the North" due to its numerous canals, which were originally created for transportation and trade but are now a major tourist attraction. The canals thru the city form a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city is also home to many famous museums, including the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh Museum, and the Stedelijk Museum.
Amsterdam has a rich cultural heritage, with a long history of art, music, and theatre. The city is known for its vibrant nightlife and is a popular destination for tourists and young people.
The economy of Amsterdam is driven by the port, which is one of the busiest in Europe, and by its vibrant tourism industry. It is also a hub for finance, media, and technology companies.
