What to see and do in Bar Harbor, Maine

Bar Harbor is a small town located on the northeast shore of Mount Desert Island in Maine.

It is a popular tourist destination known for its beautiful coastal scenery, historic architecture, and outdoor activities. 

We visited Bar Harbor on 9/18/2015. We visited Cadillac mountain in the Acadia National Park and the visited the downtown area.

  One of the town's most popular attractions is Acadia National Park, which covers much of the island and offers visitors an array of activities, including hiking, camping, bird-watching, and wildlife watching. Some of the park's most famous features include Cadillac Mountain, which is the highest point on the east coast of the United States, and Sand Beach, a beautiful crescent-shaped beach nestled between two rocky headlands.

In addition to its natural beauty, Bar Harbor is also home to a charming downtown area, filled with unique shops, art galleries, and restaurants. Visitors can take a stroll along the Shore Path, a scenic walkway that winds along the waterfront and offers stunning views of Frenchman Bay.

The town also has a rich history, with many beautiful examples of 19th-century architecture still standing. One of the most famous is the Asticou Azalea Garden, a Japanese-inspired garden that was built in 1956 and features a beautiful collection of azaleas, rhododendrons, and other flowers.
