Halifax has a rich history, dating back to its founding as a British military and naval base in 1749.

On 9/15/2015, we hired a driver who took us on tour of the city and the surrounding countryside which include a visit to the lighthouse at Peggy's Cove. It is one of the most visited places in the area. We had fresh caught lobster for lunch at a local fishing port.

Halifax is home to a number of significant historical sites and landmarks, including the Citadel Hill fortification, the Halifax Public Gardens, and the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic. In 1917, the SS Mont-Blanc exploded in the harbour killing 2,000 people.  It was the largest artificial explosion before the atomic bomb.
