What to see and do in Invergordon, Scotland

The village of Invergordon is a deep water port located on the east coast of Scotland.

It was built along the shore of the Cromarty Firth which is a large inlet of the North Sea. The village is surrounded by hills, and the scenery is generally considered to be quite picturesque.

We visited Invergordon on 6/10/2022. While there, we drove through the downtown area and past Dalmore Farms and the Glenmorangie distillery as we traveled to Inverness, Loch Ness and the Scottish Highlands.

The port at Invergordon was established in 1828. Today, Invergordon is a popular destination for cruise ships which use the port for tours into the northern Highlands. Its deep-water port which can accommodate some of the largest vessels in the world.

Invergordon has a rich history, and was a significant location during World War II. The village was used as a naval base, and played a key role in the North Atlantic convoys. Today, visitors can explore some of the wartime history of the area, including the Invergordon Naval Museum. During the Second World War, a large flying boat base occupied much of the northerly coast of the Cromarty Firth.

The village has a number of amenities, including shops, cafes, pubs, and a swimming pool. There is also a golf course nearby, which is known for its scenic views. Invergordon is located near a number of other attractions in the Highlands, including the town of Alness, the Black Isle, and the Glenmorangie distillery. It is also a short drive from Inverness, which is the largest city in the region.
