KeAnae Point, Maui, Hawaii was destroyed by a tsunami with 35′ foot waves

The KeAnae is a half-mile long peninsula of newer lava sticking out from the cliff line of the Hana Highway. On April 1, 1946, the village located there was destroyed by a tsunami with 35′ foot waves. The only building left standing was the 1856 church.

While traveling on the Road to Hana on 12/17/2023, we stopped at KeAnae.   While there, we walked along the rugged shoreline.  We also visited the 1856 church.  It was being renovated so we could not go inside it.  There is a small cemetery next to the church.  There are several roadside vendors located here selling macadamia nut brittle and banana macadamia nut bread.
