Khemliya is a small town located in the region of Souss-Massa, in southern Morocco. It is known for its traditional architecture and rural lifestyle. The town is surrounded by desert and offers a peaceful and serene environment, away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Our local guide, took us to a lead mine near Bagaa in the Sahara desert and then from there, we traveled to Khemliya where we had lunch and participated in a native dance. After that we visited the Merzouga salt lake (Lac Dayet Srij) and the Igrane oasis which is between the salt lake and the 450 ft high Merzouga sand dunes.

Khemliya is famous for its annual Berber festival, which is held in the month of August and attracts a large number of tourists and locals alike. The festival showcases traditional Berber music, dance, and cuisine, offering a unique insight into the region's cultural heritage.

Aside from the festival, there are a few historic sites in and around Khemliya that are worth visiting. These include the historic Kasbah of Timassine, the 19th-century mosque, and several traditional Berber houses, with their distinctive mud-brick architecture.

In recent years, Khemliya has also emerged as a popular destination for eco-tourism, with its picturesque landscapes, rolling hills, and dense forests offering a perfect backdrop for outdoor activities like hiking and bird-watching..
