Higuey is the capital city of the eastern La Altagracia Province in the Dominican Republic

It is known for its beautiful Caribbean beaches and resorts. The Yuma River flows through the urban areas of Higuey. It was founded in 1502 by Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de Leon and has long been a pilgrimage center known for its elaborate shrine of the Virgin Mary, which houses a magnificent altar.

La Hacienda Park is an amusement park located in Higuey. They offer different activities such as ziplines, horseback riding, buggy riding, and safari experiences. At La Hacienda Park, you’ll find the country’s longest and fastest ziplines and its only chairlift.

We visited La Hacienda Park on 4/9/2023. They picked us up at our hotel and we traveled by bus to the park. Once there, we went on the buggy ride thru the jungle which was a fun but muddy ride. We stopped at a small waterfall in the river and had an opportunity for a short swim. We then rode back to the park entrance where we showered. Next our group went to the stables where we went on a horseback ride thru the jungle. Following the horseback ride, we boarded a truck and visited a small village with farm animals that simulated life in earlier times. Afterwards, we returned to the park entrance where we were fitted in harnesses for ziplining and then rode the chairlift to the top of the mountain. From the mountain top, there is a series of 5 ziplines that take you down the mountain and back to the entrance. Lunch is then provided. Following lunch, we returned by bus back to the hotel. We had a great time and would recommend this to others.

Other popular attractions in Higuey include the Basilica Cathedral Nuestra Senora de la Altagracia, which is a large cathedral that is considered one of the most important religious sites in the country. You can also visit the Parque Nacional del Este which is a national park that has beautiful beaches and coral reefs.
