Samaná is a province located in the northeastern region of the Dominican Republic, known for its stunning natural beauty and abundant wildlife. The area is home to a number of scenic beaches, including Playa Rincón, one of the most famous and beautiful beaches in the country. Samana was discovered by Europeans on January 12, 1493 by Christopher Columbus who was greeted with a barrage of spears and arrows from native Taíno warriors.
We visited Samana on 10/2/2013.The hotel that we stayed at here had an observation platform that overlooked the bay and a causeway that extends out into the bay. Cayo Levantado Samana is an island at the mouth of the bay that we traveled to by boat.
