What to see and do in Lake Placid, New York
Lake Placid is a popular tourist destination located in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York
It gained international recognition when it hosted the Winter Olympic Games in 1932 and then again in 1980.
I visited Lake Placid on 4/30/2023. While there, I drove through downtown lake Placid and visited Mirror Lake. I also visited the Olympic Ski Jumping Complex, Whiteface Mountain, High Falls Gorge, and Cascade Lake.
People often confuse Mirror Lake which is located downtown with Lake Placid which is located on the north end of the town. Lake Placid offers various recreational activities like boating, fishing, and swimming during the summer months. In winter, the lake freezes over, creating an ideal setting for ice skating, ice fishing, and ice hockey.
The surrounding mountains provide opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, ATV riding, and rock climbing. The region is also known for its excellent skiing, snowboarding, snowmobile, and bobsledding facilities, with Whiteface Mountain and Mount Van Hoevenberg being popular destinations for winter sports enthusiasts.
The town of Lake Placid is charming and has a rich history. Visitors can explore Main Street, which is lined with unique shops, restaurants, and art galleries. The Lake Placid Olympic Center is a popular attraction, housing an Olympic Museum and offering the chance to skate on the same ice rink used during the 1980 "Miracle on Ice" hockey game.

Olympic Ski Jumping Complex includes a 100-meter high and a 128-meter high ski jump tower which were built for the 1980 Olympic Games
Olympic Ski Jumping Complex has a gondola ride which takes you to the top where you can then take an elevator to the top of the 128 meter tower.
Cascade Lake is located in a pass between Cascade mountain and Owl's Head mountain
High Falls Gorge has walkways through the gorge
Whiteface Mountain is a popular ski area with a gondola ride to the top
