What to see and do in Stowe, Vermont
Stowe is a picturesque town located in Vermont, in the northeastern United States.
It is situated in the Green Mountains and is known for its natural beauty, historic charm, and outdoor recreation opportunities.
On 10/28/2011, we crossed the state of Vermont on I-89 thru the Green mountains and stopped at Stowe and Waterbury (home of Ben & Jerry's ice cream). Once we reached Burlington, we traveled south to Chimney Point where we crossed into New York by ferry. The Ferry has since been replaced by the Lake Champlain bridge. In April, 2023, I visited Stowe and stopped at the Von Trapp Family Lodge and Brewery.
One of the main attractions in Stowe is the Stowe Mountain Resort, which offers skiing and snowboarding in the winter and hiking, mountain biking, and other activities in the summer. The resort has over 40 miles of ski and snowboard trails and a gondola that provides stunning views of the surrounding mountains. In addition to the resort, there are several other ski areas nearby, making Stowe a popular destination for winter sports enthusiasts.
Stowe is also home to several historic landmarks, including the Stowe Community Church, which dates back to 1818, and the Stowe Historical Society Museum, which has exhibits on the town's history and culture. The town's Main Street is lined with charming shops, galleries, and restaurants, many housed in historic buildings.
The natural beauty of Stowe is also a major draw for visitors. There are several hiking trails in the area, including the popular Stowe Pinnacle Trail, which offers stunning views of the Green Mountains and the surrounding valleys. There are also several waterfalls and swimming holes in the area, as well as opportunities for fishing, kayaking, and canoeing.
