We visited Punta Borinquen on 9/14/2023. While there, we visited the local beaches, Faro Punta Borinquen, Ruinas del Faro, the old Naval Facility and the Punta Borinquen Beach overlook.
Punta Borinquen has historical importance due to its association with the Ramey Air Force Base, which was established during World War II. The base played a crucial role in the defense of the United States and the Caribbean region. Although the base has since been decommissioned and is now known as Rafael Hernandez Airport, the remnants of its military history can still be seen in the area.

Ruinas del Faro are the ruins are the remnants of the Ponderosa lighthouse which was built in the 18th century by the Spanish. It was partially destroyed by an earthquake in 1918.
The Naval Facility was decommissioned and abandoned in1976. It was later reopened in 1990 as an orphanage which closed in 1996. Now it is used by graffiti artists to display their artwork.
