What to see and do at Rio Mar (Playa las Picuas), Puerto Rico

Playa Las Picuas is a popular spot for windsurfing in Puerto Rico

It is a  secluded and relatively small Caribean beach located on the northeast coast of Puerto Rico to the northwest of Luquillo beach. 

The Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Resort is located near here and it is a very popular resort with golf course. 

The beach is known for its crystal-clear water and golden sand, which provides a perfect setting for swimming, sunbathing, and relaxing. The beach is surrounded by lush green vegetation providing a stunning natural backdrop. and a great view of El Yunque.

Since Playa Las Picuas is a less crowded and remote beach, it is ideal for those seeking a peaceful and serene beach experience. However, visitors are advised to exercise caution and safety when swimming, as there are no lifeguards on duty. Additionally, there are no facilities or amenities available on the beach, so visitors need to bring their food, drinks, and beach gear.

Overall, Playa Las Picuas is a beautiful and tranquil beach that offers a respite from the hustle and bustle of the city, making it a popular destination for locals and tourists alike.

As you walk south on the beach, it widens and the water off shore is deeper with larger waves.

Several of the nearby restaurants such as Richie's and Terraza Montemar, sit on the hillside overlooking the beaches.

We rented a house on the beach known as "The Nice Beach House". We stayed here with our kids and grandkids.
