What to see and do in Santiago De Los Caballeros, Dominican Republic

Santiago de los Caballeros is a major economic center located in the Dominican Republic. 

It has a thriving business community and industries such as textiles, manufacturing, and agriculture.  It was established in 1495 and moved to its current location in 1506.  It is the second largest city in the country and is considered the capital of the Santiago Province. 

On 10/7/2013, we visited Santiago de los Caballeros and spent the night at a hotel in the city.

The city has a rich cultural heritage, and its colonial-era architecture and historic landmarks, such as the Parque Duarte, the Catedral de Santiago, and the Monasterio de San Francisco de Asis, attract tourists from all over the world. On a hilltop, the 1944 Monumento de Santiago, topped by a white column, is dedicated to the heroes of the Dominican Restoration War. 

Santiago is also known for its lively music scene and its traditional festivals, such as the Festival Presidente de la Musica Latina, which features performances by some of the biggest names in Latin American music.

In addition to its cultural and historical attractions, Santiago is surrounded by lush green mountains, making it a popular destination for outdoor activities such as hiking and horseback riding. With its vibrant culture, rich history, and beautiful natural surroundings, Santiago de los Caballeros is a city that truly has something for everyone.
