Colon is located at the Caribbean end of the Panama Canal.

Colon is the second-largest city in Panama, located on the Atlantic coast of the country. It is a major port city and a center of international trade.   Ships line up here for their turn to transit the isthmus to the Pacific.

We visited here on 4/22/2016 by cruise ship and took a bus from the city across the isthmus to Panama City on the Pacific and visited the locks of the canal at Mira Flores.

It is also an important hub for tourism, as it serves as a gateway to the Panama Canal and other attractions in the region, such as the lush rainforests of the Chagres National Park. The city has a rich history, dating back to the 16th century when it was a stopover point for Spanish conquistadors traveling to South America. Today, Colon is a modern, bustling city with a diverse population and a growing economy.
