What to see and do in Cork, Ireland

Cork is a city located in the south of Ireland and is the second-largest city in the country after Dublin.

 The city is situated on an island in the River Lee and is connected to the sea by Cork Harbor. Cork has a rich history and culture, and is known for its vibrant music scene, literary heritage, and friendly locals.

​We visited Cork on 6/16/2022. While there, we drove through the city and along the banks of the River Lee.

The city has a long history that dates back to the 6th century when it was founded by St. Finbarr who built a monastery there. Then, between 915 and 922 AD, Viking settlers founded a trading port here. Over the years, Cork has been influenced by various cultures and people, including the Vikings, the Normans, and the English. As a result, the city has a unique mix of architectural styles, with Georgian and Victorian buildings alongside medieval structures.

Cork is also famous for its food and drink culture. The city is home to the English Market, one of the oldest and most famous food markets in Europe, as well as many pubs and restaurants serving traditional Irish dishes such as seafood, stews, and potato dishes. The city is also known for its beer and whiskey, with the famous Murphy's and Beamish stouts being brewed in Cork.

Overall, Cork is a vibrant and fascinating city with a rich history, culture, and cuisine. It is definitely worth a visit if you are traveling to Ireland.

The Church of St Anne is located in the Shandon district of Cork city in Ireland. Built between 1722 and 1726, it is situated on a hill overlooking the River Lee.
