What to see and do in Holyhead, Wales

Holyhead  is a town in Wales located on Holy Island

It is bounded by the Irish Sea to the north, and is separated from the Isle of Anglesey by the narrow Cymyran Strait.  It is connected to the Isle of Anglesey via the Four Mile Bridge. It is the largest town on the island and is a major ferry port for travel to and from Ireland from the United Kingdom. Holyhead's ferry services connect the town to Dublin and Dun Laoghaire in Ireland. 

We visited Holyhead on 6/14/2022.  We toured the town and Holy Island and then traveled to and visited Beaumaris and Llanfairpwllgyrgyll on the Isle of Anglesey.

The town has a long history, dating back to the Roman occupation of Britain. Holyhead was an important religious site in the Middle Ages, with a monastery and a number of churches. It was also a major port for the shipment of Welsh wool and the import of wine and other goods.

Today, Holyhead is a popular tourist destination, known for its beautiful beaches and stunning scenery. Visitors can explore the nearby South Stack Lighthouse, which stands on a rocky island just off the coast, or take a hike along the rugged coastal path. The town also has a number of historic buildings and landmarks, including the Holyhead Maritime Museum and the St Cybi's Church.
