Llanfairpwllgwyngyll is a large village on the island of Anglesey in Wales. 

It is famous for having the longest place name in Europe and the second longest name in the world (at 58 characters) .  

We visited Llanfairpwllgwyngyll  on 6/14/2022.  While there, we visited the train station and the James Pringle Weavers gift shop which has the English translation of the name on a sign over the entrance.

The long form of the village name is "Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch" 

The village was originally known as Llanfair Pwllgwyngyll, which means "The Church of St. Mary in a hollow of white hazel trees." In the 19th century, a local tailor, inspired by the long Welsh place names, added to the name to make it even longer. The name was officially changed in 1868 to the longer version it is known as today.

Despite its tongue-twisting name, Llanfairpwllgwyngyll is a small and charming village located near the Menai Strait, a narrow stretch of water that separates the island of Anglesey from mainland Wales.

The village train station is a popular tourist destination where visitors stopping by to take a photo of the village's famous train station sign with the full name. There are also a number of shops, cafes, and other amenities in the village.

The village is across the strait from Bangor which is on the mainland. Garth Pier in Bangor was built in 1896 and stretches 1,550 feet out into the Menai Strait.
The Belgian Promenade Footbridge was built by Belgian refugees during World War I. The Menai Suspension Bridge behind it was built in 1826,
 Llanfairpwll sits on the Menai Strait next to the Pont Britannia Bridge,
Located on Church Island near Menai Bridge is St Tysilio's Church which dates from the early 15th century.  St Tysilio founded a hermitage on an island in 630 AD.  Also on the island with the church is its graveyard and a war memorial on the highest point.
