What to see and do at Coxen Hole, Roatan, Honduras

Coxen Hole is a town located on the island of Roatán, which is part of the Bay Islands of Honduras.

It is the largest town on the island and is located on the western coast of Roatán. There are two cruise ship ports in Roatan. One is located in Coxen Hole and the other located in Mahogany Bay. 

Coxen Hole is a small town with a few shops and restaurants.   On our first trip here on 3/28/2018, we docked in Mahogany Bay and went to a small restaurant on the water here and had a drink.  On our second trip here on 3/16/2022, we anchored off shore and tendered to the dock in Coxen Bay. 

Coxen Hole serves as the commercial center of the island, with many shops, restaurants, and local businesses. It is also the location of the island's airport, Juan Manuel Galvez International Airport, which connects Roatán to other cities in Honduras and to international destinations.

Despite its commercial importance, Coxen Hole is not a typical tourist destination. Most visitors to Roatán tend to stay in other parts of the island, such as West Bay or West End, which are known for their beautiful beaches and vibrant nightlife.

One of the main attractions in Coxen Hole is the Municipal Market, where locals sell fresh produce, seafood, and handicrafts. Another notable feature of the town is its colorful, colonial-style buildings.

Overall, Coxen Hole is an important hub for commerce and transportation on the island of Roatán, and it provides visitors with a glimpse into the daily life of the local population.
