What to see and do in Maya Eden, Roatan, Honduras
Roatán is an island in the Caribbean Sea, located off the coast of Honduras.
It is the largest of the Bay Islands and is known for its stunning beaches, clear waters, and diverse marine life, making it a popular destination for scuba diving and snorkeling.
When we visited Roatan on 3/28/2018, we took a tour to Maya Eden where we were able to view and hold the local wildlife and take a short hike thru the jungle. On our second trip to Roatan on 3/16/2022, we took a different tour but it also included a stop at Maya Eden.
In addition to its natural beauty, Roatán has a rich history, having been inhabited by various indigenous cultures for centuries and later serving as a pirate base. Today, the island is a popular tourist destination, attracting visitors with its laid-back Caribbean atmosphere, cultural attractions, and outdoor recreation opportunities.
The island's economy is largely based on tourism, but it also has a growing expatriate community and a thriving arts and crafts scene. Roatán is home to several small villages and towns, each with its own unique character and charm.
