Estancia la Mimosa is an attraction highlighting the life and culture of the gauchos of Argentina

In 1869, Ángel Velaz bought 2,500 acres of land in the pampas and established a country store on the Camino Real in times when there were no fences, no orchards, and no mills or trains. This traditional county store and bar was originally called La Esquina de Velaz. Immigrants who had recently arrived from Europe and the gauchos from the pampas would gather here on Sundays to socialize. During the past 30 years, the ranch has become an attraction highlighting the life and culture of the gauchos including displays of horsemanship, folk music and dance.

When the yellow fever epidemic hit Buenos Aires, the family moved into the store. Ángel Velaz's daughter, María, in the 1900s, remodeled the building into a colonial mansion with Italianate and art-nouveau embellishments and formal gardens. At that time, the name of the estate was changed to La Mimosa.

We visited the ranch on 2/4/2024.  When we arrived at the ranch we were met by gaucho on horseback with the Argentine flag.  Then at the entrance, we were offered empanadas and a glass wine. This is followed by a folk dancing on the lawn in front of the mansion.  We then wandered around the estate where we saw peacocks, chickens, and dogs roaming freely while other animals were in paddocks. Next, we had the option to ride in a horse drawn carriage or to take a short horseback ride.  Afterwards, the gauchos gave a show of their horsemanship.  Lunch included a selection of barbequed meats and salads served with wine and beer. This was followed by traditional dances, drums, and bola routines.
