What to see and do at the Krka National Park, Croatia

Krka National Park contains a mosaic of karst landscapes, many of which are unique in the world.

It's at the mouth of the Krka River, which features a  waterfalls that drop into an emerald pool surrounded by lush forests. You can hike through these forests and along mountain trails to discover hidden caves and pools with powerful cascades; or just sit back and enjoy nature's show!

We visited the Krka National Park on 10/3/2022. We hiked the trail around the waterfalls 

 Located on the Krka River, the Skradinski Buk waterfall is considered to be one of the most beautiful calcium carbonate waterfalls in Europe. The water is crystal clear and full of fish. It's made up of a series of waterfalls that cascade surrounded by lush forests and mountains. You can hike through these forests and along mountain trails to discover hidden caves and pools with powerful cascades.

The Skradinski Buk waterfall is the second highest in Croatia. Within 1,200 feet, a series of 17 waterfalls drop the river nearly 150 feet. The  waterfalls are flanked by ancient watermills from the 1200s AD that were used to grind grain.

The buk is a massive, clear, natural pool with high waterfalls at one end and cascades at the other. It is the lowest of the three sets of waterfalls along the Krka river. 

The falls are also accessible by boat tours on the Krka River. Seawater extends 14 miles in the ria from the base of Skradinski Buk to the Adriatic Sea.

The Roski Slap waterfall is Croatia's highest waterfall and the second highest in Europe, measuring at 240 ft in height. The Roski Slap waterfalls is one of the most beautiful spots inside the national park, despite that majority of visitors to the Krka national park is not even aware of its existence 

Krka National Park Monastery is located on a small island in the middle of the Krka River. It was built in the 10th century and then rebuilt again in 13th and 15th centuries. The monastery is one of Croatia's most important medieval architectural monuments, as well as an important spiritual center for its people.

Visovac Monastery is also located in the Krka National Park, about 30 kilometers from Šibenik. It's a Benedictine monastery that dates back to the 12th century and was built on a hill overlooking Lake Vrana. The architecture of Visovac Monastery is based on Romanesque and Gothic styles and its interior contains many beautiful frescoes. 

The fact that this park is so close to Split makes it a great day trip, and one of the best ways to see some beautiful nature. It’s also one of Croatia’s most popular destinations, so make sure you plan ahead before you go!
