What to see and do in Palermo, Sicily, Italy

Palermo is located in the northwest region of the island of Sicily in Italy

 It is the capital of the province of Palermo and is one of the largest cities in Italy. Palermo is known for its rich history, which has been shaped by a variety of cultures and civilizations over the centuries, including the Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans, Arabs, Normans, and Spanish.

We visited the city on 09/19/2005 and spent the day walking the streets of the city.

Palermo is home to many historic landmarks and cultural attractions, including the Cathedral of Monreale, which is one of the most important Norman buildings in Italy, and the Teatro Massimo, which is one of the largest opera houses in Europe. The city also boasts numerous museums, including the Museo Archeologico Regionale and the Galleria Regionale della Sicilia, both of which feature exhibits on the art and history of Sicily.

In addition to its cultural attractions, Palermo is also known for its bustling street markets, including the famous Vucciria market, as well as its delicious cuisine. Palermo is famous for its street food, which includes dishes such as arancini (deep-fried rice balls), panelle (chickpea fritters), and crocchè (potato croquettes).

Overall, Palermo is a vibrant and dynamic city that offers a unique blend of history, culture, and cuisine, making it a popular destination for tourists and visitors.
