What to see and do in Stromboli, Italy

Stromboli is one of the Aeolian Islands in Italy and is known for its active volcano, which has been continuously erupting for thousands of years.

The island is a popular tourist destination, attracting visitors who come to see the volcano's eruptions and its spectacular displays of fire and ash.

On 9/17/2005,  while traveling from Naples to Messina, we passed by the volcanic island of Stromboli.   The volcano was active and you could see steam or smoke rising from the caldera.

Stromboli's volcano is one of the most active in the world and is a type of volcano known as a "Strombolian" volcano, which produces small to moderate explosions of ash, rocks, and lava. The volcano is accessible by foot, and visitors can hike to the summit to observe the eruptions.

In addition to the volcano, Stromboli is also known for its beautiful beaches, crystal-clear waters, and stunning scenery. The island is home to several villages, including the main village of Stromboli, which is located on the northeast coast. The island has a population of around 500 people, most of whom are involved in fishing and tourism.

Overall, Stromboli is a unique and fascinating place, offering visitors the chance to see a live volcano and experience its breathtaking displays of power and beauty.
