What to see and do in Naples, Italy

Naples is a city in southern Italy and the capital of the Campania region. It is one of the largest cities in Italy and is known for its rich history, vibrant culture, and stunning architecture.

On 9/16/2005, we climbed to the top of the Mount Vesuvius volcano which overlooks the city of Naples and the ruins of Pompeii.  Then we visited the ruins of Pompeii.

Naples has a long and storied history, with evidence of human settlement in the area dating back to the Neolithic era. The city was an important center of trade and culture during ancient times, and was ruled by a number of different civilizations over the centuries, including the Greeks, Romans, Normans, and Spanish.

One of Naples' most famous landmarks is the Castel dell'Ovo, a medieval castle located on an island in the Bay of Naples. The city is also home to many other historic buildings and monuments, such as the Naples Cathedral, the Royal Palace of Naples, and the Piazza del Plebiscito.

In addition to its rich history, Naples is known for its vibrant culture, which is reflected in its art, music, food, and festivals. The city is famous for its traditional Neapolitan pizza, which is considered to be one of the best styles of pizza in the world. Naples is also known for its opera, and is home to the Teatro di San Carlo, one of the oldest opera houses in Italy.

Overall, Naples is a fascinating city with a rich cultural heritage, and is well worth a visit for anyone interested in history, art, and food.
