It is one of two Spanish territories in North Africa, along with Melilla. Ceuta is an important port and commercial center, and it has a rich history that dates back to the Phoenician era.

We visited Ceuta on 5/3/2014 by car from Morocco and spent the day touring the city. Morocco borders Ceuta to the East, South, and West.

Throughout its history, Ceuta has been ruled by a number of different civilizations, including the Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans, Visigoths, Byzantines, and Moors. In the 15th century, Ceuta was conquered by Portugal, and it became a Spanish possession in the 16th century.
