What to see and do in Punta del Este, Uruguay
Punta del Este is a resort city located on the southeastern coast of Uruguay
It is near the mouth of the Rio de la Plata. It is a popular destination for tourists, both from within Uruguay and from around the world, especially during the summer months from December to February.
On 3/13/2023, we visited Punta del Este. We tendered in from the cruise ship and visited the area by bus. Our first stop was at the lighthouse, church, and metrological station. Next, we visited the tip of the peninsula where the Atlantic Ocean meets the bay. From there, we went to Playa Brava and visited the Los Dedos de Puenta del Este (The Fingers) sculpture. Then traveled to the "silly bridge" at La Barra. Afterwards, we drove thru the town and long the Playa Mansa beach to the Casapueblo museum at Punta Ballena. Arriving back at the harbor, the fisherman were feeding the scraps leftover from cleaning the fish to the seals.
One of the main attractions of Punta del Este is its beaches, which are considered some of the best in South America. Some of the most popular beaches include Playa Brava, which is known for its rough waves and surfers, and Playa Mansa, which is more sheltered and ideal for families with children.
Aside from the beaches, Punta del Este also has a vibrant nightlife scene, with many bars, clubs, and restaurants to choose from. The city is also home to a number of art galleries and museums, such as the Ralli Museum and the Casapueblo museum.
In addition to its cultural and recreational offerings, Punta del Este is also known for its luxurious resorts and high-end shopping. The city is home to several casinos, including the famous Conrad Casino, as well as a variety of designer boutiques and specialty stores.
