What to see and do at the Waimea Canyon, Kauai, Hawaii

Waimea Canyon, Kauai, Hawaii is often called the Grand Canyon of the Pacific

It is a large canyon, approximately ten miles long and up to 3,000 feet deep. It is located on the western side of the island of Kauai in Hawaii. the word, Waimea, is Hawaiian for reddish water due to the color of the water in the streams caused by the erosion of the canyon's red soil.​

On 12/21/2023, we took a helicopter tour of the island with Safari Helicopters.  The tour took us to Jurassic Falls, Waimea Canyon, the Na Pali Coast, and then along the North Shore to the Halelea Forest Reserve and the Lihue-Koloa Forest Reserve and Kawaikini peak.

The canyon was formed by the Waimea River. The river is fed by extreme rainfall which falls on the island's Kawaikini peak of Mount Waialeale, which is considered the wettest place on earth.
